Vic: ACTU condemns violence and detention in Zimbabwe19 December 2007The ACTU has joined a worldwide chorus in condemning the assault and detention of Zimbabwe's opposition leader and other political dissidents. In the past few days the Zimbabwean government has detained dozens of political activists for protesting against a ban on political rallies. Among them are the Opposition leader MORGAN TSVANGIRAI and trade union leaders who were reportedly beaten by police after being arrested on Sunday during an anti-government prayer rally. ACTU president SHARAN BURROW says unions are deeply concerned about the latest breach of human rights in Zimbabwe.
