One of Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA's major roles is capacity building support to our trade union partners throughout Asia, the Pacific and Africa. APHEDA has set up this register to better assist using matching Australian trade union trainers and organisers to our partner's requests. It is expected that the majority of placements will be on a volunteer basis (with airfare, living allowance and insurance covered) although fully paid assignments will be offered as budgets permit. Work may include capacity building and training for our partners in a range of fields including collective bargaining, occupational health and safety, recruitment, information, education & communication material development, English instruction, organising and adult education methods. Placements may range from short term (less than one month) through to long term (twelve months plus). You may be based in either an APHEDA overseas office or directly with the local partner. In both cases APHEDA will provide in country support for the duration of your placement. At this stage it is expected that the majority of placements would be in the Mekong region (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia) but other areas will be available as opportunities arise. Apart from union training and organising experience, one of the most important considerations is cross-cultural communication skills and a level of patience and understanding in situations where trade union systems and capacity may be quite different to the Australian situation. Language skills are also a major bonus. Your details will be added to our register and you will be contacted when volunteer opportunities arise. Download File: |
