Papua New Guinea, our closest neighbour, has over 800 languages and enormous cultural and biological diversity. However the images that Australians associate with PNG are that of a war torn Kokoda Trail. This exhibition will change the way viewers imagine PNG.

The AID/WATCH exhibition, 'Graun em Laip - Land is Life' will give Australian's greater insight into the diversity of PNG. The collection of images exploring the relationships of people in PNG with their land are taken by local PNG landowners and by AID/WATCH members on their travels.

Touring nationally the Sydney opening will feature video footage, sound tracks & the stories of participants from the recently returned AID/WATCH trip to PNG.

"In PNG land really is life. Over 80% of people are subsistence farmers. Their land is their supermarket - water, food, building materials - everything comes from land. This exhibition not only depicts the land in PNG but the struggle to keep it in the hands of community ownership and managed in an environmentally sustainable way." Said Karen Iles, AID/WATCH Co-Director.

AID/WATCH is a not for profit NGO monitoring Aid & Development in PNG.
