Home Overseas Projects Laos Project History
Overview
Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA commenced support to Lao PDR in 2000. The initial project of non formal vocational training through the Lao Women's Union built on our experience in adult education and non formal education for women in Cambodia and Vietnam for over 15 years.
From 2003 Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA expanded programs into several additional areas. One of these was livestock and fisheries development with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Luang Prabang.
In partnership with the ILO and the global union, the IFBWW, Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA also supported workplace health, safety and HIV/AIDS prevention with the Lao Federation of Trade Unions in 6 provinces (Luang Namtha, Oudomxai, Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Khammouan).
Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA has also been active in improving development cooperation and information exchange between INGOs in Lao PDR and between International Non-Government Organisations (INGO's) and donors. Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA co-initiated with 3 other INGO's, small projects to initiate program sharing and liaison in 2004-2006 with the aim to share development experiences, improve learning and reduce duplication.
