The new vehicle purchased for mobile medical teams

Our 2010 appeal to purchase a replacement mobile medical clinic for our partner Patient's Friends Society (PFS) in Jenin, West Bank raised an amazing A$46,900! The current vehicle was significantly damaged by the Israeli army in 2007, was on its last legs and really needed to be replaced.

With this enormous fundraising, Patient's Friends Society were able to purchase a brand new vehicle [see photos] and their mobile medical teams can travel far more safely to their remote clinics.

The Patient's Friends Society provides mobile health services to 10 villages in the Jenin area, reaching around 80,000 Palestinians. Often PFS operates the only medical service available in the villages.

The PFS mobile medical team visit each village once a week. The team consists of a gynaecologist, health workers, a laboratory technician and a driver. The team carry with them medicines, ultrasound equipment, medical instruments, blood testing equipment, and an electrical generator, as electricity supply in the villages is regularly interrupted.

The mobile clinical services are particularly important for women's health needs, with the medical team providing not only home visits and close care of women during pregnancy and childbirth, but also education on family health care issues.

APPEAL UPDATE, July 2010: A Thank You letter from Patient's Friends Society

Up to July 2010, this appeal has raised approximately A$45,000. When we told PFS about this enormous effort, they wrote to say that they would like to send a thank you letter to all the donors who generously gave to this appeal. Here is their letter...

Dear APHEDA donors,

I'm writing to you on behalf of Patient's Friends Society (PFS) to thank you for your contribution towards purchasing a mobile medical clinic to replace the vehicle that was damaged by the Israeli Army in 2007.

So far we received through APHEDA a total of A$45,000.

PFS has been providing services to the local Palestinian population under Israeli occupation for almost four decades. Such services would have been impossible without the solidarity of committed people like yourself and the tireless effort of organization like APHEDA.

Your generous contribution will enable us to continue our primary health care program which provides much needed services to rural areas. We provide service to 10 villages, 80,000 Palestinians. The mobile medical clinic vehicle will make sure that sick people in remote areas have safe transport vehicle to reach medical centers and that doctors can travel with equipments to rural areas.
