History of Union Aid Abroad's programs in VietnamUnion Aid Abroad-APHEDA has worked in some of the poorest and most remote provinces in Vietnam since 1985. Projects have focused on education and training in health, teacher training, agriculture and forestry, vocational and technical skills, labour issues, occupational health & safety (OH&S), microfinance and capacity building. Between 1985 and 2005 Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA has supported over 50 projects in all regions of Vietnam. A focus has been on northern mountain provinces of Hoa Binh and Bac Kan as well as Hanoi and surrounding areas. Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA maintains an office in Hanoi to assist program development, monitoring and evaluation. Recent projects

HIV/AIDS training for workers 2001-2003: Health Worker Training in Hoa Binh Province (Department of Health). Three month training courses for 240 village volunteer health workers of which 50% are women. 2001-2005: Health care for women & children in Bac Kan Province (Women's Union). 2,762 women and 988 children access health checks & health education, 144 health care workers and Women's Union officers trained in health care Additional Areas For Further Research & Possible Development
Accreditation and Awards In 1998, Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA was the first international NGO to receive the Vietnam President's Medal for its development contribution to Vietnam. In 2004 Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA was also the first international NGO to receive the Vietnam Women's Union President's Medal for services to women's emancipation in Vietnam. |
