Union Aid Abroad & East Timor (Timor-Leste)

Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA has been working actively on the ground in Timor-Leste since 1998. We maintain an office in Dili staffed by Timorese personnel.

Travelling with Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA and being part of the study tour is a unique opportunity to talk to the local people about their experiences of the reconstruction process, about their hopes and aspirations for their new nation, to learn about international aid development and also about the work of Australian unions through Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA. You will have the opportunity to visit the many projects that Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA assists in partnership with local communities.

We currently support 10 Timorese partner organisations and also coordinate with a wide range of organisations, unions and training institutions in Australia and internationally. Our Timor-Leste program includes community radio and media development, carpentry and blacksmithing cooperatives, theatre and cultural production, literacy training for rural people, income generating skills training for women, capacity building of the National University Library and strengthening of the union movement.
