Australian Internationalists Raise $17,000 for Lao Workers Organising Against Exploitation!

Feb 27, 2020

This festive season, we asked Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA members and supporters to stand with workers in Laos on the front-lines of globalisation.

And you responded to the call, raising a record-breaking $17,000! 👏🎉

When we talked to Phitsamai, a textile worker and union delegate, she wanted us to pass on her thanks to the Australian union movement for standing with the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU):

“Thank you to Australian trade union movement for supporting the Lao Federation of Trade Unions. And thank you to LFTU for supporting us at our garment factory; no matter what issue we raise with the LFTU, they always provide advice to us.”

Your donation will help unionists like Phitsamai secure safety in their workplaces, just workplace conditions, and living wages. They are building their collective power to tackle systematic wage theft, exploitative multinational corporations, and dangerous workplace practises.

On behalf of the unionists of Laos who are organising against exploitation, the Lao Federation of Trade Unions and Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA staff in Laos have asked us to say thank you to all the supporters of the 2019 Festive Season appeal.

By contributing to the 2019 Festive Appeal, Australian unionists and internationalists have shown Lao workers that they are not alone in their fight for justice at work. Their fight is also our fight!

Make a Greater Impact

If you made a one-off donation, consider becoming a member of Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA, the global justice organisation of the Australian union movement.
