CoPower shows solidarity to communities on the frontline of the COVID-19 economic crisis
Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA would like to thank all CoPower members who have provided almost $700 in solidarity credits. These credits will support energy democracy projects in communities on the frontline of the COVID-19 economic crisis.
CoPower Forgoes Revenue for Solidarity during COVID-19 Crisis
On 1 April 2020, Cooperative Power (CoPower) made the decision to forgo all revenue for 12 months, instead deciding to pass it on to those who need it most – both domestically and internationally.
As a result of this incredible show of solidarity in unprecedented times, Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA received its first donation from CoPower. The donation came through the Solidarity Credit Program which was set up in response to the COVID-19 crisis. This donation is the first of four quarterly donations and will go towards supporting the work of our Energy Democracy partners in the Philippines, Nepal and Vietnam.

Our partner organisations are currently responding to the economic crisis through ensuring affordable and clean electricity for communities. Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA is a founding member of CoPower, a growing community owned electricity retailer which looks to ensure a fair clean energy transition for all.
What are Solidarity Credits?
Each member who makes the switch to CoPower receives an annual $50 solidarity credit. If they are currently experiencing reduced income as a result of COVID-19, can choose to receive the credit. And those members who are receiving a decent income can choose to pass on their credit as a $50 solidarity credit.
Check out this video which explains how CoPower’ unique COVID Solidarity Program is giving a hand up to those impacted by the economic crisis in Australia and across the Asia Pacific.
